I’ve been doing a lot of thinking, something that is always dangerous, and I think I kind of want to try and take Tattooed Trilobite in a different direction. You see, some of my favorite websites are nostalgia/seasonal/pop culture blogs – people like Matt at Dinosaur Dracula and Jay at The Sexy Armpit are almost daily reads, and I love to read articles about food or toys or things that existed when we were kids, but not so much anymore.
The only problem with these sites – and it’s hardly a problem! – is that most of them are people that grew up playing with “boys’ toys.” So while I loved to watch Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, He-Man and Thundercats, I wasn’t allowed to have the action figures. There was no USS Flagg or Technodrome in my bedroom, but there WAS a Prancing Pretty Carousel and a Little Tikes Dollhouse. I wasn’t allowed to have video game systems, but as I have written about (quite a few times), I did spend a lot of time with my father’s laptop. My nostalgia’s a bit different from that, and I would really love to see it reflected. I was born in 1986 to older parents. Thanks to shows like VH-1’s “I Love The 80s/Strikes Back/3D,” I have a lot of misplaced nostalgia and fondness for things that may not sit directly in my “90s kid”/millennial nostalgia view. Deal with it, I guess.
Either way, I figured I would take matters into my own hands. I can’t promise a frequent update schedule, because we all know how well that’s turned out for me in the past, but what I can hope to offer is:
+ reviews of cool toys I had as a kid
+ reviews of cool toys you can get now
+ reviews of other products that have a vaguely “retro” feel to them (food, clothing, media, who knows!)
+ nostalgia trips to specific situations I remember
+ guest posts from other people about toys they may have had that struck a chord with them
+ and more! Who knows? We’ll take this trek when we get there.
I’ll still probably stick a personal post or two in there that might not necessarily fit with the pop nostalgia theme, but hey. I’ve got some ideas brewing for posts I’d like to make right now, so stay tuned!
